Tamluk Bargabhima is situated in Midnapore district and it is royal place. It can be said to be grounds of some royal families that do not exist now. The complete area of Tamluk is around 8 miles. This is one such place that shows you an example of how low caste people could also acquire a kingdom for themselves. The old Tamluk city has gone under the river. In fact, even the temple of bargabhima is also situated under the river. The main deity of this place is goddess Bargabhima. This goddess is one of the forms of Tara or even Shakti.

The idol that is made in the temple has four hands. The complete idol is made from stone and each hand has different armories. Upper right hand has trishul while lower one carries sword.  On the left upper arm, goddess carries human skull and on the lower one head of a demon is seen. Then the complete goddess is seen to be standing on Lord Shiva. In fact, you could feel the image of Mahishasurmardini. There are three different parts of the shrine- Inner sanctuary, hall of audience and dancing hall. Each of these parts has their own importance. Since long time it has been believed that the site is being made on the site of Buddhist monastery.
