Haldia : Captive power players—companies that
set up their own power plants in order to supply energy to their
manufacturing operations—have for the last few years hoped to
outgrow their boots and become major power brokers on the national

around 10 per cent of the country’s total generation capacity of

generate to the grid while others hope to effect a similar
transition.
Yet, those plans and ambitions are beginning to take a back seat

who'd ordered police to remove the picket on Tekhali bridge just
two days before a CPM-led "recapture" bid that left nine persons

Near Patikhali, near the place where Hooghly Met coke factory is being established , there was a Ferry Ghat: Phool Bari. It was also near the local market of "Bahanlari". Now there is no existence of both the"Phool Bari" & the market of ":Bahanlari". It was a source of connection for the local people with Sagar Islands. |
In the official documents of Calcutta Port Trust related to the establishment of "Haldia Dock", Haldi river is written as "RIVER HALDIA". Is it by mistake? |
The old Zamindar house of Debhog is now inside the Renuka Sugar Refinery Plant. Very few people are aware that it was the home of famous historian Dr.Amalesh Tripathi. In 1936 he stood first in the School Matriculation Examination(jointly for Bengal, Bihar & Orissa) from Tamluk Hamilton High School. This building was constructed by his father. It was kept deserted for a long time and a point of curiosity to the local people. |
Gokul Refoil Solvent Ltd. is under construction near the oldest temple of DoroDubnan Pargana. It was a temple of lord Krishna---a legend from Gokul! See my earlier writeup: Oldest temple turned to a garbage bin. Hope this temple will remain the same at its location. |

now inside the boundary of HFC.
Now this is not in use, surrounded by jungle, even I could not
locate the position standing at the Hooghly river bank. Local
people who were living in the villages before the foundation of
HFC, still remember its existence. They saw the person used to come
to the light house for checking the lighting system and replacing
the empty gas cylinders.Red ,Green & yellow light was blinking

Ultimately Gokul Refoil demolished the oldest temple for the sake of their plant. It's a shame to us that we can not save our heritage place. It could have been transformed to a tourist -spot for the visitors at Haldia, but we simply forget it and allowed to demolish the spot. |
.jpg) Only the river knows why people called it "Huldee". In the official documents of British period, the spelling for this river was written as "Huldee". Some people say , its water is yellowish and this is the reason of its name. Once the principal town town of Doro pargana had a big market at Kukrahati. Even today the market exists in a different form. It's near the river, near the village and often sailors landed here for purchasing of hens/cocks & vegetables. Heard from the elder people that in early 1900 s, people used to go to the market with their bulls burdened with rices & returned home with vegetables, salts ,chicken etc. |
|
In 1864 AD devastating cyclone killed 3/4 of its population at Doro pargana. Farmers lost their land due to saline water. Very few people were alive to receive the Government aid. |
