Detail: Indian Oil Corporation Ltd is one of the eight opening refinery that is being started in Haldia. It is situated almost 136 km down the side of Kolkata. It is situated under the confluence of river Hoogly and river Haldi. It initially started as a crude oil processing company that had the capacity of 2.5 MMTPA and now the capacity has gone as higher as 5.8 MMTPA. In 1989-90 there was de bottlenecking and that led to increasing capacity of 2.75 MMTPA. In 1997, it went higher to 3.75 MMTPA. The main responsibility of petroleum products to be supplied is mainly carried out in Eastern India. Barges, tank trucks and trank wagons are used for the same purpose. MS and HSD are some of the products that are manufactured from his unit of IOCL. Apart from being the holding the sole production of jute Batching oil, it is also the only coastal refinery in the area. In the year 1999, Diesel Hydro Desulphrisation has been activated and it was used ofr the production of low sulphur content but High speed diesel. With this, BS II and EURO III equivalent are being produced at the present refinery.
Further they thought of increasing the yield of refinery and it was in 2001 when the commission was started with the name, Resid Fluidised Catalytic Cracking Unit or RFCCU. This is done to meet the requirement of BS, MSD and LPG. There is production of eco and environment friendly Bitumen emulsion and even Micro crystalline wax. Again in 2003, the management was commissioned with catalytic dewaxing unit. There was further high production of quality lube oil base stocks as well as meeting other standards. In 2003, it was commissioned with MS quality improvement project that started meeting Euro III field standard quality of products. Now, even Hydrocracker project has been approved and commissioning of this project would surely help Haldia. It would be easy to start and supply Euro III HSD and Euro IV to all eastern part of India.
